What OKF actually is, in plain English
OKF stands for Open Knowledge Format. It sounds technical, but the idea is simple. Picture hiring a brilliant new assistant. Day one they are smart, but they do not know what you sell, who your customers are, or which of your documents are still accurate. They need a training manual. OKF is a training manual for AI.
It matters now because AI moved from prompts (“write me an email”) to agents that read your documents, understand your customers and decide the angle themselves. An agent is only as good as the knowledge you hand it. Organised knowledge in, sharp work out. Messy pile in, generic guesses out.
Here is the honest part. Every article on OKF ends the same way: this is for developers and big enterprises, regular marketers do not need it yet. Half true. In raw form OKF is markdown files, YAML and bundles, and no busy marketer is hand-building that. That gap is the whole point of this tool. OKF Architect does the technical part for you.
What it does
One-click page capture
Click the icon on any page: your site, a competitor, an expert’s article. It pulls out the individual ideas and turns each one into a properly structured OKF file. Other early tools dump a whole page into one file. That is a filing cabinet. This builds a brain.
The Living Wiki engine
Capture a second source on the same topic and it does not make a messy duplicate. It recognises what you already know, folds the new information in, flags anything that contradicts it, and cross-links related ideas. Your base gets smarter every time you use it.
Keyless, with optional BYOK
It builds the prompt, opens your own ChatGPT, Claude or Gemini with it inserted, and you paste the result back. No API bills, no key required. Prefer one click? Add your own key in Settings and it runs directly. OpenAI, Anthropic, Gemini or OpenRouter, which is one key for hundreds of models.
Saves where your knowledge lives
Save to a local folder, which works nicely with Obsidian, or take a plain download. It keeps a self-updating index and a change log, so the bundle is always current and always yours.
Works on any website
Including JavaScript-heavy pages and pages you are logged into. It reads the page you are actually looking at, not a scraped copy from somewhere else.
A head start on an empty title
SEOs and agencies can build clients’ knowledge bundles as a service while “OKF specialist” is still an empty title. Coaches can package proprietary knowledge into clean bundles. Owners stop re-explaining their business to ChatGPT every time.

How to install it

What does it cost?
Nothing. There is no licence key, no trial and no upgrade nag. You bring your own AI, so there is nothing to pay me monthly either.
Is this an SEO trick?
No, and be sceptical of anyone who tells you OKF is a ranking factor. It makes your knowledge usable by AI. Different game, and a bigger one.
Do I need to be technical?
No. It handles the markdown and the structure. You browse and click. The only slightly technical bit is the one-minute install above, and that is just four clicks in Chrome.
Do I need to pay for AI?
No. It runs in your own ChatGPT, Claude or Gemini using the free web versions. Optionally add your own API key in Settings for one-click operation. It takes an OpenAI, Anthropic, Gemini or OpenRouter key, and OpenRouter means one key covers hundreds of models.
How do I get the self-updating behaviour?
Connect a local folder as your target rather than using plain download. The merge engine needs somewhere to read your existing bundle from, so it can update what is already there instead of adding another file.
Is anything held back?
Capture and the Living Wiki engine, which are the two things that matter, are fully free and unlimited. A few extras built for a paid version are still switched off: publishing a bundle straight to GitHub, bulk-capturing a whole site from its sitemap, and pulling a YouTube channel’s transcripts into a bundle. You are not missing anything you need to build your first knowledge base.
Is OKF not too new to bother with?
It is very new, and it will change. That is the opportunity rather than the problem. Most of your market has not heard the acronym, and the few who have are stuck because the raw format is technical.
Build your first brain this week
Pick one topic you explain to people over and over. Capture the three or four best pages on it, yours and other people’s. That folder is now something you can hand to any AI instead of re-explaining yourself.
